How to Play

Basic rule: Chess is a two player game, White & Black, which moves in turns. White always moves first. To win the game of chess, you have to attack the king in a way that it cannot escape. This is called Checkmate.

How the pieces moves:

The King ……Moves in one square in any direction.

The Queen……Can move the whole length of squares in any direction.

The Rook……Can move the whole length of squares, Vertically or Horizontally only.

The Bishop……Can move the whole length of squares diagonally.

The Knight……The only piece that can leap other pieces, opponents or his own. Moves two ways in total of three squares.

1.One square to the right or left, then two squares forward or backwards.

2.One square forward or backwards, then two squares to the right or left.

The pawn……Moves only one square forward. Unless, from the opening position, the Pawn has the option of moving one or two squares. It can only captures if the opponent is located on either of the diagonally forward adjoining squares, or one square to the right or left.

Additional moves:

Castling……Safeguarding the King against attack.

Two ways of Castling:

King side Castling: Move king two squares towards King Rook Then, Move King Rook two squares towards King.

Queen side Castling: Move King two squares towards Queen Rook Then, Move Queen Rook three squares towards King.

Note: You cannot castle anymore when the King or the Rook that you want to castle with has moved.

You cannot castle when:

1. You are in check.
2. If one of the square you want to use for castling is controlled by an enemy.

En Passant ( in Passing )

You can only use in Passing if:

1. The pawn that will be captured moves two squares from it's opening position.
2. Your pawn is in Fifth rank or square

In Passing's method of capturing is the same way as if your capturing any other piece.

Note: Only a pawn can use in Passing.

Rules:

Check:
This is when your opponent threatened your king with any of his pieces. You cannot move anything else until you get your king out in a check situation. You can MOVE YOUR KING, BLOCK it with any of your piece, or CAPTURE the one that is threatening your king.

Checkmate: This is when your opponent checks your king and you couldn't escape from it. This ends the game.
Stalemate: This is a situation where it is your turn to move but has no square to move. The result of this is Draw.

Draw: There are different ways to get a draw.

¢ IF YOU AND YOUR OPPONENT AGREES FOR A DRAW
¢ IF YOUR OPPONENT OR YOU ARE STALEMATED
¢ IF YOU AND YOUR OPPONENT HAD MADE THE SAME MOVES THREE TIMES WITHOUT CAPTURING ANY PIECE 50 MOVES WITHOUT ANY CAPTURES OR PAWN MOVES
¢ IF YOU RUN OUT OF TIME AND YOUR OPPONENT DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH MATING MATERIAL
¢ IF YOUR OPPONENT RUNS OUT OF TIME AND YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MATING MATERIAL
